Welcoming message of the Chairperson of the Organizing Committee

Ladies and Gentlemen Dear Participants,

We are very pleased to welcome you to Yamoussoukro, the political and administrative capital of Côte d’Ivoire for the 5th annual conference of the African Society of Forensic Medicine (ASFM). For the very first time, the annual Conference of the ASFM will be held in a francophone country and supported by the Ivorian Society of Forensic Medicine and Judicial Investigations (SIMIJ). The ASFM is a pan-African organization which brings together professionals of Forensic Medicine of both English and French speaking African countries and whose Secretariat is housed in Nigeria. The ASFM seeks a number of objectives: - Promote professionalism, Competence, Integrity, Independence, Training and Research in the area of Forensic Medicine; - Encourage collaboration in the area of Forensic Medicine and its applications in the judicial system. These objectives therefore qualify the ASFM as an institution on management and good governance of Forensic activities in Africa as it is the case for SIMIJ on a national scale. The chosen theme of the 5th Conference is " Resolving Conflicts in Africa : the Role of Forensic Medicine.". The choice of this theme rests on the need to engage researchers and practitioners of Forensic Medicine in the challenges they are confronted with in situations of conflict. To deal with these challenges, Forensic Medicine can only unite its efforts with others who specialise in the domain to make this possible. Hence, it is a pressing matter which brings us to question all forms, consequences and solutions of conflicts faced by the world today. Conflicts of a new generation, with Africa also being one of its auditoriums. These emerging forms of violence raise new questions and answers which can only be discussed studied and consolidated within multidisciplinary settings such as the 5th Annual Conference initiated by the ASFM. The expected results of this joint study should place emphasis on the vital and compelling role of Forensic Medicine as firm support for a State of law that aspires to the emerging of 2020. Welcome to Yamoussoukro and good conference! Thank you
